Thrifty Thursday: Nautical Decor

My boys' bathroom has always had a nautical vibe, so when I spotted these at Goodwill, I grabbed them!  I thought they would look great after a nice paint job!
They cost $3 each

Here are a few pictures of the bathroom to show a few of its nautical accents:

We recently removed the door in this bathroom that separates the sinks from the shower area, which has been awesome!  It felt so cramped before!  However, the wall that used to be hidden by the door is now visible!
So I removed the pegs from the oar, painted it black with gray stripes, and hung it above the towel rack:

With the anchor, I painted it solid black, then removed those weird looking stars, and attached shells wrapped in twine to hang on the pegs.

(I know this picture is horrible, I'm sorry!)

Painting Interior Doors

This weekend as I was reorganizing the garage, I noticed how disgusting our garage door was!  In the year we have been in this house, I know I've wiped it down many times, but it grossed me out so badly that I grabbed my paintbrush and got busy!

The color choice was easy, I just used the same color I used on the mudroom wall
(Valsapar's Jekyll Grand Dining Sea Mist)

Here's the interior Before & After:

 Exterior:

What a difference!  It not only covered up the grime, but it adds a pop of color to the drab garage, and the interior hallway!

So while I was at it, and because I loved it so much, I thought it would be awesome to paint the interior side of our front door too!
I painted it the same color as the exterior side.  I don't even know what color it is, I just grabbed the little color sample that the builder gave us when we moved in!
And yes, I think it looks awesome too!

4th of July Porch

How was everyone's Saturday?  I spent the day changing up my porch for the 4th of July...finally!
I've never been really big on holiday decorations (except Fall and Christmas!)  And even when I manage to put up a few things, its usually only on the porch.  But I tried a little harder this year for the 4th and added more patriotic goodies!

Since I have to use fake flowers on my porch, one thing I always do for the Holiday/Season changes is change up the flowers.  So I replaced my pink Spring flowers with these pretty red and blue ones
(from Hobby Lobby and Garden Ridge):

Over Memorial Day Weekend, I went shopping with my sister and her husband's family, and her sweet Mother-in-Law Joyce bought me this Welcome sign!  Isn't it adorable?!

Then I made 2 wreaths:
This first one cost me about $6
The brown wreath I got at Goodwill, and the wood stars came from Hobby Lobby.
I just attached them to the wreath with hot glue, and hung it on my post
(which I will tell you more about later!)

Here is the second wreath:

I made this one using the same type of wreath and attached hydrangias instead.  Then I looped some burlap ribbon and hung it on my door.
This one cost me about $15

And Finally....I made ANOTHER pallet sign! HA!  They are just too much fun!
And the best part is that it cost me pretty much nothing to make it!  I used my free pallet wood, then used my favorite technique (explained here) for transferring the lettering, then added a few wood stars and burlap ribbon.  I attached it using a wooden stake that I had!

So here's my porch all finished!
And of course it's not complete without a little munchkin sitting in the middle, right?!

Pantry Door Make-Over

When I saw this blog post found here, I fell in love with the door and knew that I HAD to do that in our house.  So I finally got around to it!

Here is the result (once again, sorry I'm not a photographer!)

This is how I did it:

I didn't have a nice fancy door.  Mine was just a plain 2-panel door.  So the first thing I did was add wallpaper to the panels.  Yep, thats right.....WALLPAPER!!  I took a little trip to Lowes and grabbed some of that bead board wallpaper.  I followed the directions and it took about 20 minutes! I only did the front of the door.
The next day I took some black paint and went over the areas I knew I wanted to distress.  When that was dry, I took vaseline and rubbed it on the black paint.  Then I painted the entire door, front and back.  I waited another day to distress it because I wanted the paint to be good and dry!

I was extremely careful when I was distressing on the wallpaper because I didn't want to scrape off the wallpaper.  When that was finished I took a brown glaze and rubbed the entire door with it.  I did a little bit at a time and wiped off each area with a wet cloth.

This is a picture from the inside of my pantry and the back side of the door.  Here you can see how it looks without the wallpaper and without the distressing because I did neither on this side.  All I did on this side was paint and glaze.

And here is the front after it was all done!

My mom then fell in love with MY pantry door, so she asked me to do hers.  But because her and my dad are a little more conservative, they didn't want the wallpaper or heavy distressing.  So I just painted and glazed their door.  It looks amazing too!  And she got an added bonus:  I made her a pretty wreath to hang on it (since she had been wanting one of those too)!
