You know how I've been trying to work on my older boys' rooms?! Well, it has been slow going! They started school last week and neither room is finished!
Oh well, at least they are getting there, right?! We did get a bed for the oldest, so they are sleeping in their own rooms.
But I thought I'd give you a little update on what I have done so far!
Room #1: The Star Wars Room
This room is for my oldest who requested a Star Wars Room. He is crazy about it!
We finally found him a desk, so I painted it to match the rest of his furniture.
We paid $80 for it on Craigslist.
I really wanted a desk for him so he could have a place to display all of his lego creations!
And really quick I have to tell you about his Boba Fett helmet! My younger brother made it for him! It is AMAZING! He has definitely got some mad skills! My brother is a huge Star Wars fan, too. In fact, him and my other brothers went to the Star Wars Convention in Florida last year, and he made full costumes for the 3 of them. Because of their costumes, they were featured in the NASA Magazine!!! So cool!
My brother left to serve a two year mission for our church, and before he did, he made this helmet for my son!!! We love Uncle Stephen!!
Anyways, the black shelf I got from a garage sale for $5. It was originally white, so I painted it black also.
I looked online for cute decor for his room, and Star Wars stuff is EXPENSIVE!!! Yikes!
So I made these wall plaques for $3! Oh yeah!
I found these square plaques at D.I. for $1 each. So I painted them gray to match his room
Then I found some images online and printed them off my computer
Using the same method found here, I rubbed the image onto the plaque, then filled it in with a sharpie!
Finally, I took my ink pad and rubbed it over the entire plaque, focusing on the corners and edges to give them a dirty/rustic look.
I think they look pretty awesome, and my son agrees...which is the best part!
While I was at it, I did the same thing for his name plaque. I downloaded the Star Wars font, printed out his name, but instead of transferring the ink, I just cut out the letters, traced them, and painted the letters gray
Room #2: The Music Room
My middle son wanted a music room! What?! I didn't even know where to begin! My little first grader isn't even taking piano lessons yet!
I'm still struggling with his room, so there's not much to show yet.
I am trying to incorporate some music aspects into stuff he already has, mostly because he gets really attached to stuff...like his Knight! lol!
So while I was at Goodwill I picked up a few old records for $1 each. And, yeah, that's pretty much it for his room!!!
Anyone have any suggestions?....please....I need help!!! :)

Hmmm, I've never done boy stuff before, but a guitar would be awesome. You can often find them at DI or Goodwill.
ReplyDeleteThe records are a good start though. My sister once did a whole bunch of CDs on a wall (the "music" side out so they were all the same) which looked cool. Band posters? I'm at a loss...
Haha, well thanks for trying! I do have a guitar...I should hang it up! And I'll have to look at posters, I didn't think of that!!!
DeleteHi Therena, love your little boys room....how come I am just now finding your blog??? Love it!!! Will sign up to follow you!

DeleteSo cool! My husband is jealous! He is a huge Star Wars guy... but when your name is Luke, I don't think yo have a choice! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! Haha, so true! My older brother is such a fan that he named his son Luke lol!
DeleteLove the Star Wars room. We have so many Star Wars legos in my boys room. Between them and my husband we have lots of Star Wars stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! The legos tend to drive me crazy...its never ending! lol
DeleteYou might want to start by finding out what kind of music he likes. Guitar, classical, cello, rock, etc. I'm also doing a music themed room for my son, but it is a rock theme. hoping to have his record valance finished soon. You could try framing sheet music of his favorite song. I've seen fabric that has music notes on it online too that you could make curtains and throw pillows out of. If he's going to take piano lesson, maybe a keyboard off of craigslist would be a good idea and it would go well in a music themed room too.
ReplyDeleteOh I've tried! He is the kind of kid that can't even tell me what he wants for Christmas, lol!!! I love the idea of the framed sheet music....and fabric!
DeleteThanks so much for giving me some ideas!!! I need them! :)

You are so talented! I love your son's idea of a music room - perhaps a keyboard stencil horizontally painted up a bit of wall? And hooks in the shape of "notes"? :-)
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you so much! Oh, I like those ideas, thank you!!!
